Harmony Brewing Company is a family-owned beer brewing company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Siblings Barry, Heather & Jackson VanDyke opened the Harmony Eastown liquor store in 2012 during the recession. Because they had been home-brewing their beer 10 years prior, the siblings called Harmony Hall their “home-brewery” project. They have always envisioned the pub being a cozy, neighborhood bar and it certainly has lived up to the image.
What the siblings referred to as “something people ignored” along Lake Drive in Grand Rapids Michigan soon turned into Harmony Eastown. The building was an abandoned post-prohibition liquor store. With a couple of friends and some money, they fixed the 1928 residential home into their first Harmony Brewing Company. They purchased a stainless steel five-barrel dairy tank from a far in Wisconsin and immediately started brewing some of their best recipes.
Harmony Eastown had developed into quite the local hangout over the years as they imagined and not long after, they had to expand because the demand of the beer was so high.
They moved into an empty Bavarian-Mexican stronghold in 2015 and called it their “beer castle”, Harmony Hall. The building used to be a restaurant the siblings loved going to as children and were glad to make it into something of their own. The Harmony Hall is found on the West Side of Grand Rapids.
Still banking on their image of being a cozy, hang-out in Eastown, the siblings opened Harmony Hall along with the launch of their famous pizza and beer delivery. Harmony Hall opened with an expanded ten-barrel system and give large fermentation tanks. They hit the ground running with 30 beers on tap, including some great lagers to celebrate the German heritage of the building.
Harmony Hall opened with larger tables, prepped to accommodate families and friends on Fridays. Heather VanDyke-Titus mentions that they were happy to expand to a much larger place. They soon offered restaurant items, as well, but their pizza was the one that caught the public’s eye.
The Harmony Brewing Company’s pizza has been winning awards and gained recognition throughout many publications. The 12-inch, wood-fired pizza comes in 19 flavors, including staples like Margherita and Pepperoni. They also serve their bestseller, Crispy Pig Pizza, which has pepperoni, ham, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil. The beer brewing company also offers vegan options in the form of their Sun Shroom, Sliding Doors, and My Velouria Pizzas. For picky eaters, Harmony Eastown also offers a Build Your Own option.
Harmony Brewing Company is unique in liquor delivery in the fact that they deliver craft beers. Their website includes a selection of four beers and eight wines because they have a microbrew license.
